Zulfikar, M.Ed, Ph.D Key Words: Teaching Vocabulary, and Make a Match Technique This research investigates the effect of Make a Match technique application in teaching vocabulary to the eighth grade students of Junior High School (SMP) Negeri 18 Banda Aceh. The main purpose was to know whether the students who were taught by using Make a Match technique would get a better score in their vocabulary mastery compared to those who were not. The material given to the students was vocabulary in context with narrative text. The population and sample of the study was the eighth year students of Junior High School Number 18 (SMP Negeri 18) Banda Aceh which consists of 58 students; 29 in each class. The data of this research was collected by giving the pre-test and post-test. The data was analyzed using SPSS 15,0. The result of the data analysis can be seen from the result of the post-test of the experimental group in which that the mean of the post-test of the experimental group was 48.51 while the mean score of the post-test of the control group was 42.43. The mean of the pre-test of the experimental group was 38,58 while the mean of the pre-test of the control group was 38.89. By comparing t-test score of the experimental group and t-table score, it shows that the result of t-test was 0.335 while the result of t-table at a level of significance with  = 0.05 is 2.0484. It means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. So, it can be concluded that the students who were taught by using Make a Match technique have a higher score in vocabulary mastery than those who were not. As the follow up for this research, it is suggested that English teachers should use various technique in teaching especially Make a Match technique that can be an alternative to be applied in teaching English.
